This is an original collage quilt of autumn coloured maple leaves in a variety of fabrics and various colours of netting using hand and machine construction. This quilt was made specifically for my exhibition, The World of Kathleen Bissett in December of 1993. Upon viewing a photograph of one of my Leaves of Our Lives the coordinator of the traveling exhibit requested that I make one to reflect the Canadian autumn. Her request came in mid-October and our departure was at the end of November. As the deadline drew close I was concerned about completing this project which required a great deal of cutting with hands weakened by arthritis. Fortunately, my friend Geraldine McGinnis stepped in to help with the cutting.
Before leaving Tokyo I gave the quilt to the Canadian Embassy as they were one of the sponsors of my visit to Japan. Unfortunately they were unable to accept the gift as they are not permitted to accept any gifts. It was then invited to tour in an international quilt show in Japan before returning home.
